Questions before you decide.
Explore surface choices, construction, scope, disruption and care. Some answers depend on your site: ask Dan to explain what can be confirmed now and what an assessment needs to establish.
Site assessments
Is the site assessment a booked appointment?+
Not until we've spoken and agreed a time. Your online request starts that conversation.
What happens at the assessment?+
We discuss how you want to use the space, take relevant measurements and review existing surfaces, levels, drainage and access. We explain suitable options and identify any further checks needed before the proposal is complete.
Will I get a price on the day?+
Usually not. We prepare a written proposal afterwards so the scope and price are worked out in detail.
Construction
Why does the base matter so much?+
The supporting construction carries the surface and the loads above it. Its materials, depth and compaction need to suit the ground and the intended use, whether the area is for vehicles, seating or a connecting path.
Can you plan my driveway and patio together?+
Yes. Tell us which areas are involved and how they connect. Each area needs suitable materials and construction, with levels, drainage and shared access considered across the project.
Does a visualiser image confirm what can be built?+
No. It helps explore appearance. Physical samples, measurements and site assessment are needed to confirm the materials and construction.
Can you lay over my existing drive?+
Sometimes. Only if the existing base is sound and the levels work. We check before recommending an overlay.
What about drainage?+
Water has to go somewhere. Your proposal says where, whether that's through a permeable build-up, to a soakaway or to a drain.
Do I need planning permission?+
Some front-garden surfaces need it, depending on size, permeability and drainage. We'll flag it, but please confirm with your council.
Quotes & payments
Why do project quotations differ?+
A quotation prices a particular scope: supporting construction, excavation and waste, drainage, edging, bedding, jointing, steps, inspection covers and access. Dan explains what is included and excluded, helping you compare prices for the work your site actually needs.
Can I explore a different budget?+
Discuss a different finish, border or project extent. The preparation required for the site and use still needs to be included; a cheaper surface cannot solve an unsuitable base.
Can I get a patio price from the area alone?+
Area helps, but access, excavation, ground conditions, material choice, cutting, drainage, steps and edging can change the work required. We confirm the scope and price after assessment.
Are steps and walls included in a paving price?+
Only where the quotation explicitly includes them. Levels, dimensions, foundations and any specialist design requirements need assessment before those items are priced.
Is an estimate the same as a quote?+
No. An indicative estimate is a guide. A fixed quotation follows your site assessment and sets out the exact scope.
How are payments staged?+
Your proposal explains each payment stage, the amount due and when it becomes payable. Any deposit terms are set out for you to review.
What if something changes on site?+
We agree any variation in writing, with its price and effect on the programme, before doing the work.
After the work
How disruptive will the work be?+
Excavation, deliveries and laying can restrict parking and access. Your proposal sets out the anticipated sequence and arrangements; weather, site findings and agreed changes can affect the programme.
When can I use the surface?+
Follow the timing confirmed for your installed materials and site conditions. Pedestrian access and vehicle use may have different restrictions; ask before returning vehicles or placing heavy loads.
How do I look after my new surface?+
Follow the guidance supplied for your installed materials and jointing system. Our aftercare page provides general information; contact Dan before using a treatment you are unsure about.
Is there a guarantee?+
Your proposal identifies any workmanship cover and its terms separately from manufacturer warranties for the specified products. We explain what each covers, its conditions and how to raise a concern before you accept.
